Ash Tree Census at Mac Forest

This study’s objective is to update the tree census and information on the state of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) infestation at McMaster Forest. I wanted to investigate the patterns of EAB infestations and see if there was any influence from the tree diversity or density in the area.

In order to test this big question, I conducted sampling, winter field work, tree census, GIS + R data analysis & visualization.

The Influence of Plant-Mycorrhizae Symbiosis on Agricultural Leaching

The research investigated agricultural leaching into nearby water bodies, and what mycorrhizal fungi’s influence is on the process.

I have always been an avid gardener, sometimes it goes out of hand.

Here are some of my experiences:

1. Plant community advisor and volunteer gardener at the Royal Botanical Gardens.
2. Loyal 6-year volunteer at the McMaster Biology Greenhouse.
3. Botanical expert for the Pelton Lab with Suncor.
4. Plant Biology 2D03 TA and Lab Instructor.
4. A failed plant delivery service startup.
5. A hydroponic chamber startup.

Currently working on: fogponic systems and automating plant care systems.

Drone Piloting and Remote Sensing

I am a licensed drone pilot that flies to capture rare perspectives and beautiful scenes.I am interested in combining agile UAVs with thermal, multispectral and LiDAR sensors to be used in surveying, mapping, exploration, wildfire detection, agriculture and mining.

Image analysis combines two of my passions: science and visuals. I love how I can see the world through different perspectives. I am looking at using machine learning to optimize land use classification and detection, while also determining its limits.

I believe the combination of data acquisition via UAVs coupled with appropriate analysis presents a quick, minimally invasive way to make informed decisions.

Sustainability Projects

I had the amazing opportunity to lead sustainable projects in the Philippines. Collaborating with the local government units and people of Batangas, the youth of Manila, and the most uplifting and motivating team anyone could ask for in order to promote sustainability, inform future segregation policies, and set up volunteer experiences.
